City of Walsenburg



The Curcharas River and Huerfano County are experiencing exceptional drought conditions.  On May 2, 2018 the Governor activated drought mitigation and response plans. Additionally, the City is drawing down City Lake in preparation for reconstruction of the dam.  Consequently, mandatory water restrictions as per Ordinance No. 1117 are now in effect to maintain adequate supplies for fire protection and basic domestic needs.

Stage 1 —EFFECTIVE JULY 27, 2018 at 12 a.m.

  • Two (2) days per week outdoor watering restrictions



Odd Numbered Addresses — Monday and Thursday

Even Numbered Addresses — Tuesday and Saturday

Hours:  Between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m. and between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m.

No watering allowed between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. and between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. or on off days.  Residents with automatic water sprinkler systems may water between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m. on their designated watering days.


  • Planting of new sod or turf not recommended

  • Water is not allowed to run off property in a wasteful manner

  • Cleaning of hard surfaces (driveways, sidewalks) with water is prohibited

  • Plants in containers/flower gardens may be watered by sprinkler can only

  • Vehicle washing at residence is not allowed

  • No Bulk Water Sales

Recreational Fields:

Football:  Monday and Thursday 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Baseball: Tuesday and Friday 6 a.m. to 10 a.m.

City Parks

Monday and Fridays 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

Golf Course

Up to 8 Acre Feet per month.


Saturday and Wednesday 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. limit 150,000 gallons per month.  

Greenhouses and Grow Warehouses

Greenhouses and Grow Warehouses as defined in Ord. No. 1156 are encouraged to use all possible conservation measures to include drip irrigation.  Water use in Greenhouses and Grow Warehouses are limited to a maximum allowed use of 150,000 gallons per billing month per tap.  

Water Haul

Available from 8 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Friday for domestic cisterns and livestock only.  Water Haul is prohibited for any commercial, horticulture or agricultural purpose.
